Fix the Basics. Restore Confidence. Build the Next Sault.

My campaign is built on four clear commitments for Ward 2: practical action, accountable local government, and measurable results.

1. Safer, Cleaner Neighbourhoods

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home, on their street, and in our downtown. We must support people experiencing homelessness, mental-health challenges, and addictions while also addressing the serious impacts that disorder, unsafe properties, and inadequate coordination have on residents and businesses.

Platform in Action:

  • Establish a Ward 2 neighbourhood-response table bringing together the City, police, fire, bylaw, healthcare and mental health providers, housing and social-service agencies, businesses, and residents.

  • Improve proactive enforcement and cleanup of unsafe or deteriorating properties, illegal dumping, needles, garbage, and abandoned materials.

  • Advocate for reliable downtown foot patrols, visible safety measures, supportive housing, treatment, and mental health supports with clear public reporting on results.

  • Publish an annual Ward 2 dashboard tracking calls for service, fires, overdoses, property complaints, response times, and neighbourhood outcomes.

My commitment: We will help people in crisis, but we will not abandon the neighbourhoods carrying the consequences of fragmented systems.

2. Better Services and Respect for Taxpayers

Residents should not have to choose between affordable taxes and functioning local services. City Hall must focus first on the essentials: roads, sidewalks, snow removal, public safety, infrastructure, and reliable day-to-day services.

Platform in Action:

  • Support disciplined city spending, with operating-cost growth kept at or below inflation unless Council publicly justifies an exception.

  • Prioritize investment in roads identifying a comprehensive restoration plan for potholes and resurfacing of key arteries.

  • Create a clear, publicly accessible map showing road conditions, planned resurfacing, and major infrastructure projects.

  • Review discretionary spending and prioritize major projects to ensure City resources, staff capacity, and investment are focused on the initiatives that deliver the greatest value and measurable results for residents.

My commitment: Before City Hall asks taxpayers for more, it should prove it is getting the best possible result from every dollar it already spends.

3. More Homes and Increased Affordability

Ward 2 needs housing growth that improves neighbourhood quality; not simply more units on paper. We need affordable homes, supportive housing with the right services, renewed older neighbourhoods, and stronger action on vacant and neglected buildings.

Action items:

  • Make suitable City-owned land available for infill housing through a transparent and competitive process.

  • Support appropriate zoning for duplexes, townhomes, accessory units, and small apartment buildings prioritizing affordable housing units.

  • Expand incentives to convert vacant downtown upper floors into housing and bring more life to the core.

  • Strengthen the vacant-building registry, introduce escalating measures for chronically unsecured properties, and improve enforcement.

  • Advocate for permanent supportive housing that includes clear operating plans, safety measures, neighbourhood integration, and measurable outcomes.

  • Develop incentives for the clustering of businesses in the downtown core to tighten BIA offerings while encouraging social services and health supports to meet vulnerable people where they are at.

My commitment: Housing and neighbourhood renewal must go hand in hand. Residents deserve clean, safe, vibrant communities, and people in crisis deserve the housing and supports they need to succeed.

4. Good Jobs for the Next Sault

Ward 2’s future depends on a stronger, more diverse economy. As our community responds to industrial change, we must be focused on attracting investment, supporting local businesses, retraining workers, and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Action items:

  • Demand clear milestones and public reporting for the City’s investment-attraction and economic development strategies including investment readiness and FDI efforts.

  • Advocate strongly to provincial and federal governments for trade infrastructure, industrial lands, the Port of Sault Ste. Marie proposal, and economic transition supports.

  • Support faster approvals and a single, responsive City contact for major employers, investors, and development projects.

  • Make it easier for legitimate downtown businesses to succeed through practical improvements to permits, patios, parking, commercial conversions, and property standards.

  • Partner with Sault College, Algoma University, unions, employers, and training providers to support retraining and workforce development.

  • Measure economic development efforts by outcomes: jobs created, private investment secured, commercial occupancy, and new assessment growth.

My commitment: Economic development must be measured by results not meetings, announcements, or press releases.
